At Achimota Golf Club, we believe that golf is played, for the most part, without the supervision of a referee or umpire. The game relies on the integrity of the individual to show consideration for other players and to abide by the Rules.
GOLF ETIQUETTE FOR ACHIMOTA GOLF CLUB
GOLF ATTIRE
The following is considered appropriate golfing attire for the golf course and Driving Range:
MEN
- Shirt with collar and sleeves tucked in at all times
- Traditional long or short trousers worn with belt or clasp
- Traditional knee-length or short socks may be worn with short trousers
- Closed Toe Golf Shoes with soft spikes
- Traditional Golf Hat or Peak
LADIES
- The prevailing Dress Code of Achimota Ladies Section, as amended from time to time, applies
- Fashionable Golf attire is encouraged
The following are considered inappropriate:
- Drawstring and Cargo Pants
- Long Trousers tucked into socks
- Peak hat worn with the peak facing backwards
- Sandals, Slippers and Beach Wear
- Jeans or any attire made out of denim
- Any attire that has a low neckline and / or bare midriff
AT THE SOLE DISCRETION OF THE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE ANY PERSON DRESSED INAPPROPRIATELY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ACCESS TO THE GOLF COURSE OR DRIVING RANGE
GOLF COURSE ETIQUETTE
Sandbags with divot repair sand is provided while you play. Please use it to fill your divots on Tee Boxes and Fairways
Repair your pitch marks on Greens and don't litter the course
Rake your footprints from bunkers and return rakes to original positions
Enjoy your round, but play at a pace that keeps up with players immediately ahead of you
The use of mobile phones is not allowed on the Course or the Driving Range
If you use a Golf Cart, you must observe all Golf Cart Use Rules posted on the Course
Only 2 adults may ride on a 2-seater Golf Cart
Keep Golf Carts a minimum of 20 Yards from Greens and Tee Boxes and avoid driving through water-soaked areas on fairways
LOCAL RULES
The game of golf shall be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf as approved by the R&A, the USGA and the following Local Rules of the Achimota Golf Club.
A. OUT OF BOUNDS COURSE BOUNDARIES (RULE 18.2A)
- i. Beyond any wall, fence, or white stakes defining the boundary of the course.
- ii. Beyond all out of bounds white stakes.
- iii. The Club House premises including the Halfway House.
B. PENALTY AREAS (RULE 17)
- i. Penalty Areas will still be marked either Yellow or Red.
- ii. Penalty Area is the new name for Water Hazards at holes 1, 9, 10 & 18.
- iii. The grass bunker in front of hole 1 green has been designated a protected area. A ball coming to rest in this area will be dropped for 1 stroke penalty.
C. BALLS (RULE 6.3)
i. For the avoidance of doubt, players\' balls must be declared before the game starts.
D. PREFERRED LIE RULES 14.2B (2) AND 14.2E
i. On the fairway in play, the ball may be preferred within a radius of 12 inches or one club grip length not nearer the hole. The position of the ball must be marked before it is lifted.
E. IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS (RULE 16-2)
- i. All stakes on the course and any other artificial structures.
- ii. All small trees and shrubs demarcated by white stakes qualify for a free drop not closer to the hole.
F. AS ALTERNATIVE TO STROKE & DISTANCE (RULE 8 E-5)
When a player\'s ball has not been found or is known or virtually sure to be out of bounds, or the ball is lost, the player may proceed as follows rather than proceeding under stroke and distance. For two penalty strokes, the player may take relief by dropping the original ball or another ball in this relief area (see Rule 14.3).
G. GREEN KEEPERS RUBBLE
i. Green keepers rubble is grass cutting, leafs and other materials gathered for removal. Any materials left on the course that are not intended to be removed are not green keepers rubble and NO free drop is allowed.
H. CODE OF CONDUCT (RULE 1.2B)
The Committee may disqualify a player for a serious misconduct for any round of golf.
I. ANTS
A free drop for ants will only apply for a colony of red ants and not house ants.
MANDATORY RULES
All demarcated drop zones are mandatory.
Flower bed behind Hole 1, 5, 6, 16 and 17 green, classified as penalty area. Rule 17.1b applies.
Cactus on hole 4 classified as penalty area. Rule 17.1b applies.
Ditches and anthills. Rule 16.1a applies, one club length drop.
The ditch on hole 11 boundary fence is classified as penalty area. Rule 17.1b applies.
When in doubt regarding any ruling on the course, you may proceed under the two-ball rule and report back to the committee immediately after your round for adjudication.
